Vision:

Sustainable growth of livestock for ensuring nutritional security to the people, creation of employment opportunities and economic prosperity of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mission:

Genetic up-gradation of local livestock to strengthen and improve livestock productivity and ensure a disease free livestock product supply chain for the UT.

Animal Husbandry

  • Attain self-sufficiency in Livestock products through application of modern scientific techniques.
  • Improve health & genetic potential of livestock by utilizing modern scientific tools.
  • Sustained efforts in livestock sector to attain perceptible change in economic growth of the state.
  • Ensure a healthy society by safeguarding against zoonotic diseases through prophylactic measures, surveillance and monitoring of livestock.
  • Boost self-employment & entrepreneurship in the sector.

Sheep Husbandry

  • To increase economic activity related to sheep & goat sector to harness the potential to its maximum
  • Genetic up-gradation with focus on mutton/wool production.
  • Focus on veterinary healthcare.
  • Entrepreneurship development & employment generation

Fisheries

  • Preserve and conserve the bio-diversity of the water bodies.
  • Ensure sustainable yield from water bodies so that fishermen community derive their livelihood from it.
  • Propagate fish rearing in government and private sector with a view to generate employment.
